Ordering a beer/food like a local (Sweden)

A En öl, tack. — A beer, please.
A En stor stark, tack. — A large strong beer, please — 50cl, over 5%.

They'll say På fat eller flaska? — Draft or bottle?

The bartender opens with this. "En stor stark" is what most people order — a 50cl beer over 5%, so it is bigger and stronger than a default pint, not a plain one.

Q På fat eller flaska? — Draft or bottle?

A På fat, tack. — Draft, please.
A Flaska funkar. — Bottle's fine.

They'll say Vilken vill du ha? / Nån särskild? — Which one do you want? / Any specific one?

Q Vill du ha något att äta också? — Want food too?

A Bara lite snacks, tack. — Just some snacks, please.
A Nåt litet bara. — Just something small.

They'll say Varsågod. / Det blir [BELOPP] kronor. — Here you go. / That'll be [AMOUNT] SEK.

Q Vill du ha kvittot? — Do you want the receipt?

A Nej tack. — No thanks.
A Ja tack. — Yes please.

They'll say Ha det! — Take care!

Q Vad har ni på fat? — What have you got on tap?

A Vi har tre olika. — We've got three different ones.
A Bara lager. — Just lager.

Q Har du leg? — Got ID?

A Ja, här. — Yes, here.
A Jag har bara pass. — I've only got my passport.

They'll say Det går bra. — That works.

Sweden IDs hard: 18 to drink in a bar, 20 to buy at Systembolaget. "Leg" is short for legitimation.

Q Kan vi sitta var som helst? — Can we sit anywhere?

A Ja, välj själva. — Yes, take your pick.

Q Kort eller Swish? — Card or Swish?

A Kort, tack. — Card, please.
A Har ni Swish? — Do you take Swish?

They'll say Vi tar bara kort. — We only take card.

Cash is genuinely rare and plenty of Swedish bars refuse it outright. Swish is the local phone-to-phone app and needs a Swedish bank.

Tiny upgrades that sound natural (Stockholm)

En bärs, tack.— A very casual "beer, please."

Kan jag få…?— Can I get…?

Swish går bra?— Is Swish okay? (only relevant with friends and some places)

Skål!— Cheers! — with eye contact, every single time.

En stor stark.— The default Swedish order: a large strong lager.

Tack ska du ha.— A warmer thank you than a plain tack.

Kan vi dela?— Can we share? — splitting plates is completely normal.

Det blir bra så.— That's everything, thanks — closing an order.

Fika properly

Q Ska vi ta en fika? — Shall we go for a fika?

A Ja, det gör vi. — Yes, let's.
A Om en halvtimme? — In half an hour?

They'll say Jag fixar kaffet. — I'll get the coffee.

Fika is coffee, something sweet and sitting down — all three. Declining is fine; proposing a time instead is better.

Q En kaffe och en kanelbulle, tack. — A coffee and a cinnamon bun, please.

A Ska du ha den värmd? — Would you like it warmed up?

Q Vill du ha påtår? — Would you like a refill?

A Ja tack, gärna. — Yes please, I would.
A Nej tack, jag är nöjd. — No thanks, I'm good.

They'll say Det ingår. — It's included.

Påtår is the free second cup and it really is free. A third one is a tretår.

Q Ingår påtår? — Is the refill included?

A Ja, så mycket du vill. — Yes, as much as you like.

Q Vad är det för bullar idag? — What buns have you got today?

A Kanel och kardemumma. — Cinnamon and cardamom.

Q Här eller ta med? — Eating in or taking away?

A Här, tack. — Here, thanks.
A Ta med, tack. — To take away, please.

They'll say Det blir 65 kronor. — That'll be 65 kronor.

Q Tack för fikan. — Thanks for the fika.

A Tack, detsamma! — Thanks, you too!

Said to whoever you sat with, every time. Leaving without it reads as cold.

Q Har ni något utan socker? — Do you have anything without sugar?

A Vi har smörgåsar. — We've got sandwiches.
